Growing up, I saw my family severely obese and literally killing themselves with every bite of food swallowed. I feel like black people find a reason to eat for EVERY occasion. Somebody dies + black people = "Who's gonna cook the food for the repast", grocery store having a sale on meat, in 30 degree weather + black people = "yall tryna throw this food on the grill", somebody finds the remote control that's been lost for 20 minutes + black people = "lets eat good tonight, we need to treat ourselves". I slowly began to realize yes, food does brings people together in situations whether good or bad, but in my mind it's also an excuse to eat any and everything. At one point in my life, the most important people to me including my mom, aunts, and cousins all weighed between 350-500 pounds each and I knew I didn't want to end up that way. One of the reasons I decided to go to culinary school in the first place was to learn healthier eating habits to teach my family and break the cycle!

So I work for Johnson & Wales University and I travel through North Carolina and Georgia speaking to high school students about options and opportunities when it comes to college. With traveling, it limits my time to be at home & cook meals for myself, so the perk is I eat at a lot of different places on the road that I wouldn't normally have the chance go to. Of course, I find myself eating at the regular places like zaxby's and panera, but I try to eat out of my comfort zone as often as possible. My first trip of the 2019-20 school year took me cruising through the state of Georgia. Now, I've never been to Georgia other than to meet on of my fav basketball players, Lonzo Ball (we'll get to that story later lol) so I was excited to explore all the delicious food I've heard about in the ATL.
Before heading out, I did a little research and came across an article where Sammie talked about his favorite places to eat when he has free time. Now a quick back story if your unfamiliar, Sammie is a singer/songwriter who has had songs such as "I like it", "Kiss me thru the phone" Ft. Soulja boy, and the list goes on. I am and have always been a fan of Sammie, but my girlfriend Kami is the most die hard fan on this earth. None the less, in the article he said he liked this place called "The Busy Bee" so I took his word for it and tried it out. I decided to finally write a blog because my dream job, as long as I can remember, has been to become a judge on a Food Network show or a food writer in a magazine. I got a camera for Christmas and instead of taking pictures of food, I began making YouTube videos about my life and my struggles with mental health. It became hard to make quality videos because of my new jobs schedule, so I stopped. After coming full circle and understanding that my struggles with depression came from lack of passion in many avenues I was on in life, I knew I had to start taking my love of food more seriously. This blog is a journey of not only my story in the culinary industry, but my hope to reach and fulfill my dreams. This first blog is to give you a taste of me and how i got started.
"WEEPING MAY ENDURE FOR A NIGHT, BUT JOY COMES IN THE MORNING". My favorite bible scripture, lyrics in my favorite song, and tattoo'd on my inner left arm. Every good book always has a dedication and this one is mine. Today, November 8th 2019, is the first day my website goes live for the world to read, but on this day 9 years my life was changed forever.
